Is AirPass a good fit for every traveler?

AirPass membership is a great fit for travelers who fly frequently and often on a moment's notice. AirPass provide comfort and peace of mind for travelers who value convenience, full flexibility and VIP benefits. Do I have to be an AAdvantage® loyalty program member to join AirPass?

Yes. You will be asked to provide the AAdvantage number and last name of all new AirPass members during the enrollment process. To join the AAdvantage program, simply complete your profile. Your AAdvantage profile will be updated to reflect your AirPass membership.

Will I earn AAdvantage miles when traveling with AirPass?

Yes. Your AAdvantage number is stored within your AirPass member profile, so earned miles are automatically accrued as you fly on AirPass. When traveling with a companion, their miles flown will apply to their AAdvantage

What forms of payment do you accept with the AirPass?

Members can fund their AirPass pre-paid travel balance with a credit card, check, wire transfer or UATP .

What credit cards are accepted as payment for AirPass?

We accept Discover®, MasterCard®, Visa®, American Express®, JCB®, China Union® and Diners Club®.

Can AirPass members use their AirPass on oneworld® partner flights?

At this time, AirPass may only be used on American Airlines®, American Eagle®, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia and Japan Airlines flights.

Can I check my balance online?

Yes. With our simple online account management tool, you can add or remove members, assign AAdvantage elite status points and view account balances, statements, reporting, flight activity and more.

How do I check-in for an AirPass flight?

AirPass members may check-in on the American Airlines app, or at the Priority check-in counters at the airport.

How do AirPass members access the Admirals Club®?

All members receive complimentary Admirals Club® membership with AirPass. If your AirPass account manager has enabled Admirals Club access, simply provide a government-issued photo identification and your AAdvantage® number to the Admirals Club representative.

Are AirPass members eligible for Priority baggage delivery?

Yes. All AirPass members automatically receive Priority baggage delivery, so you can get where you need to go faster.

What are the complimentary in-flight amenities?

Members enjoy a complimentary snack or fresh meal and two standard alcoholic beverages when traveling on AirPass. When traveling on AirPass with a companion, you each enjoy a complimentary snack or fresh meal and one standard alcoholic beverage.

What types of AirPass memberships are available?

What is the minimum investment for an AirPass membership?

AirPass membership requires a minimum investment of $10,000 in pre-paid travel funds per member. Shared memberships may allocate pre-paid travel funds as needed to each registered member.

How do I book my AirPass reservations?

What are my booking options?

Members who book travel within seven days of departure enjoy last-seat availability and can book one-way and round-trip fares in unrestricted First (F), Business (J), Premium Economy (W), or Main Cabin (Y) without incurring any change or cancellation fees.

Members who schedule travel arrangements at least seven days in advance have access to a limited-inventory PlanAhead option that provides additional savings off the standard Main Cabin AirPass fare, subject to availability.

Can I make changes to a PlanAhead trip without fees?

AirPass provides full flexibility for members to make changes to or cancel trips without incurring fees, including on PlanAhead travel. However, any changes made less than seven days prior to departure will be subject to the standard Main Cabin fare and is no longer eligible to receive the PlanAhead discount.

When will fares be deducted from my AirPass account?

Fares are deducted immediately upon booking, providing real-time visibility to available travel funds.

What if I need to change or cancel my AirPass flight?

Changes to your AirPass itinerary can be made via, your travel agent, American Airlines Reservations at 800-433-6464 or the gate agent at the airport. Please note that funds from cancelled flights will be available in your AirPass account within 4-7 business days.

Upgrades and fees

Can AirPass PlanAhead tickets be upgraded using 500-mile upgrades?

Yes. Although members receive complimentary instant upgrades when available, members may choose to upgrade using a purchased 500-mile upgrade on both the PlanAhead and standard AirPass fares.

Am I allowed to fly stand-by for an earlier flight on the same day?

There is no need to fly stand-by with AirPass. When traveling on a standard AirPass fare, simply change your existing reservation to reflect your new travel plans. When traveling with a PlanAhead ticket, members can confirm a seat for same-day flight changes without incurring a fee.

Can AirPass members book an instant upgrade using AirPass?

Yes, if an Instant Upgrade (UP fare) inventory is available in the market it can be booked using AirPass. All fare rules must be followed. Please note that Instant Upgrades availability changes and availability is not guaranteed.

Are AirPass members responsible for taxes, fees and surcharges when booking AirPass?

Yes. All taxes, fees and surcharges are already included in the price of the AirPass fare and are deducted from the member's account upon ticketing.

Are there any fees associates with making a reservation over the phone?

No. AirPass members are exempt from phone reservation fees when booking travel directly with an American Airlines Reservations representative.

How do I upgrade?

Domestic 500-mile upgrades or complimentary upgrades earned through AAdvantage elite status may be used when traveling on AirPass.

Can AirPass members book an instant upgrade using AirPass?

Yes. When booking an AirPass flight, an Instant Upgrade (UP fare) inventory can be requested and will be automatically applied based on seat availability. All fare rules must be followed. Please note that Instant Upgrade availability changes per market.

Am I exempt from the checked baggage fee?

Yes. AirPass members are allowed two or more complimentary checked bags when traveling on AirPass.
